CareerSeekers is a non-profit organisation supporting Australia’s humanitarian entrants into professional careers. They provide in-depth preparation and support to both refugees and people seeking asylum who are either studying at university, or looking to restart their professional career in Australia.
- Colonial First State has been working with CareerSeekers since 2017, supporting the organisation through professional mentoring, interview preparation, open days, promoting awareness and providing internships for individuals in the CareerSeekers mid-career professionals program.
- The-mid career professionals program supports individuals with tertiary qualifications and professional work experience from their country of origin, who are striving to re-establish their careers in Australia.
- Due to the success of our partnership over the last 2 years, we are very proud to be strengthening our relationship with CareerSeekers and our commitment to supporting their program, by entering into a new 3 year sponsorship agreement commencing on 1 July 2019.
CareerSeekers is a non-profit organisation that supports Australia's humanitarian entrants into professional careers and assists Australian organisations to build diverse workforces and access untapped talent in our community.
Historically, on average, 17% of arrivals are employed after 18 months of arrival. A lack of local experience and references are cited as the major barrier to entry for professional employment. Employment is a crucial contributor to the successful resettlement of refugees, and the CareerSeekers program accelerates resumption of participants' professional careers and their settlement in the Australian community.
CareerSeekers participants complete work-readiness training to familiarise themselves with Australian workplaces and their customs, ahead of commencing 12-week paid internships with our employment partners. During their internships, participants build their knowledge of Australian workplaces and their local networks, gain local references and get a start down the path to resuming professional employment in their field.
For mid-career professional participants, it takes an average of just 81 days from work-readiness training to an internship. And while the average wage of a humanitarian arrival who works is just $30,000, CareerSeekers alumni in full-time employment are earning an average of $68,000.
As well as delivering benefit to some of Australia's most vulnerable people, the program unblocks the potential for an untapped market of highly educated and qualified professionals for employers in industries facing skill shortages, with demand stretching across all employment sectors.
The CareerSeekers employment and model is an easy an effective way for organisation’s to source talent while playing their part in Australia's humanitarian efforts.

"It’s going to be my 3 year anniversary working at CFS this year. Since day one, I have enjoyed the job and as I have always said; there is no way I could have turned down an opportunity like this.
Since I started working here, I have gained a lot of knowledge and skills relating to finance and the superannuation industry in general. CFS has become my home not only because I have made a lot of friends, but also because I have worked for such an amazing, and respected organisation.
This is one of the best experiences I have had; one which I will never forget. Especially as someone who came from a completely different background and work environment.
Lastly, I can say that at CFS, I have also seen that there are still people with big hearts who can help you grow and shape your future. So you can truly call Australia home. I will be always be grateful for the support."
