The Baillie Gifford Global Stewardship Fund (the “Fund”) invests across a diverse range of market sectors in growth stocks from around the globe i.e. ‘Global Champions’, alongside undiscovered opportunities in local heroes.
Baillie Gifford believes good governance and stewardship are vital to the long-term success and growth of a company. Through engagement with management and voting actions, Baillie Gifford encourages best practice on governance and sustainability matters. This goes beyond Environmental, Social and Governance factors to encompass the company’s strategic direction, corporate culture and alignment with shareholders.
The Fund is a concentrated global equity portfolio that combines the best elements of stewardship and specialist regional expertise to invest in growth businesses over the long term.

Iain graduated MA in Accounting from Aberdeen University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He joined Baillie Gifford in 1994, and spent five years training as an Investment Manager in the US Equities Team before joining the UK Equity Team in 1999. Iain became a Partner of the firm in 2005. He is the lead manager of our UK Core strategy and a member of the Global Stewardship Portfolio Construction Group (PCG).
Matthew graduated BA (Hons) in Natural Sciences (Psychology) from the University of Cambridge in 2000 and holds a PhD in Psychology from Bristol University. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2003 and is an Investment Manager in the Japanese Equities Team. Matthew is manager of the Japanese All Cap strategy and lead manager of the Japanese Income Growth Strategy. Matthew became a Partner in 2018, is a CFA charterholder, and is a member of the Global Stewardship PCG.
Mike graduated MEng in Mechanical Engineering from Durham University in 2003. He joined Baillie Gifford in the same year and worked in the UK and Japanese Equities Teams before moving to the Emerging Markets Equity Team in 2005, where he is an Investment Manager. Mike is a member of the Global Stewardship PCG, and is a CFA charterholder.
Stephen graduated BSc in Financial Mathematics from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2005. He joined Baillie Gifford in the same year and trained as an Investment Manager in the US, UK Smaller Companies and Japanese Equities Teams before joining the European Equity Team. Stephen is a member of the Global Stewardship PCG and the Head of the European Equities Team.
Gary is an investment manager in the US Equities Team. He graduated MBiochem in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford in 2003 and joined Baillie Gifford the same year. He spent time working on our Japanese, UK and European Equity Teams before moving to the US Equities Team in 2008. Gary is a generalist investor but retains a special interest in the healthcare sector dating back to his undergraduate degree. Gary is also is a member of the Global Stewardship PCG and became a partner in 2019.
Zaki graduated BA in Business Accounting and Finance from Newcastle University in 2006. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2007 and is an Investment Manager in the Global Discovery Team. He became a member of the Global Stewardship PCG in 2017.
Andrew graduated from London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) with an MSc in International Development in 2001, after completing an MA in History at the University of Edinburgh in 1999. Andrew joined Baillie Gifford as Head of Governance and Sustainability in May 2015. In his previous role as Chief Sustainability Officer for RBS he was responsible for rebuilding RBS’s approach to corporate responsibility after the financial crisis. He is a member of the Financial Reporting Council’s Investor Advisory Group and is a former Chairman of the UK Global Compact Network. Andrew is a member of the Global Stewardship PCG.
