2019 Sports Booster Winner announced
This year, we are proud to bring back the Sports Booster Award - an initiative to highlight the local volunteers, parents, and support teams behind the young Australian athletes.
We want to recognise the unsung heroes of Australian sport. All the behind the scenes work that goes into helping young athletes shouldn't go unnoticed. From the water bottle fillers, team bib washers, and half-time orange slicers!
Congratulations to Max Cooper from Rad Riders
For over 20 years, RAD (Riders Against Drugs) Riders have provided support and equal opportunities for riders from every walk of life. Designed to discourage drug use and promote healthy habits among the youth, RAD is a one-of-a-kind organisation that pioneers new and inclusive techniques building the foundation for a drug free community.
RAD founder and co-director, Max Cooper, devotes his time outside of his full-time job helping Australian youth and professional athletes alike. Since 1996, the RAD program has sponsored, mentored, and supported 400+ riders – with many going on to compete on the world stage.
Many of these riders in this program have been street youth, orphans lost in the government system, or have experienced family trauma such as drug-addicted parents and guardians.
The message of this program has always been about standing up against drugs for our youth and society. This message is something Max believes whole-heartedly and holds at the centre of everything he does.
Congratulations Max and the RAD Riders. We are honoured to present you with the 2019 Sports Booster award.
