Investment approach

Baillie Gifford’s investment philosophy is based on the conviction that sustained growth in company profits leads to higher share prices over time, as high-growth companies are rewarded for superior revenue growth and strong management. Rather than focusing on market themes, sectors or regions, the investment approach is purely stock-driven. The team invests in stocks that offer investors the opportunity to transform their portfolio growth over the long term.

The portfolio is concentrated to increase the potential returns for investors, and the rigorous investment process combines bottom-up research with fundamental analysis and proprietary research. The team utilises a unique and exacting 10-questions stock research framework to assess potential and existing investment opportunities viewed through both positive and negative lenses, analysing:

  • Industry background
  • Competitive advantage
  • Financial strength
  • Management attitudes
  • Valuation
