Scott Tully, General Manager of Investments provides an overview of Colonial First State Investments.
Colonial First State has an experienced team of investment professionals that specialise in constructing and managing Multi Sector and Single Sector options across active management, smart beta and market cap index strategies.
With eight Multi-Manager Multi-Sector, fifteen Multi-Manager Single-Sector, six Multi-Index, eight Index Single-Sector and three Index Multi-Sector options on offer, it’s easy to find a solution that meets your clients’ investment needs. The Investments team currently manages over $50B on behalf of Colonial First State’s investment, super and retirement members.
The investment team constantly monitors the portfolios and makes changes to allocations and managers as needed to achieve the best possible outcomes for investors. Mercer provides investment consulting services to enable adequate coverage of the Investment Management universe and to support the team’s rigorous portfolio construction approach.
The team’s investment philosophy is based on five beliefs:
Scott has led the Colonial First State Investments team since 2002. The team was formed following the merger of Colonial First State and Commonwealth Investment Management and has responsibility for the management of a range of investment portfolios available to Colonial First State’s clients.
Having spent 3 years with William M Mercer in the field of Superannuation Consulting, Scott joined State Bank of NSW in 1992 as an Actuarial Analyst and subsequently had a variety of roles in credit, market risk and financial markets. Following Commonwealth Bank’s acquisition of Colonial Limited (and its subsidiary Colonial State Bank) in 2000, Scott reported to the Group Executive, Institutional Banking before joining Commonwealth Investment Management in the role of Portfolio Manager, Implemented Advice.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) from the University of NSW. He has also completed the Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australia.
Peter manages a specialist team of Senior Investment Managers and Investment Analysts, with responsibility for driving the teams’ research agenda and investment process. The specialist team are responsible for portfolio construction, asset allocation and manager selection for Colonial First State's investment strategies.
Prior to 2002, Peter was employed by Commonwealth Investment Management in the position of Portfolio Manager, Implemented Advice. Peter moved into this role from Commonwealth Financial Services, where he was the Head of the Superannuation and Retirement Income Product Management. This role included responsibility for a range of multi-manager funds. Prior to joining the Commonwealth Group in 1997, Peter gained extensive experience in the management and distribution of retail and corporate financial services products through Product Management, Marketing, Technical, Customer Service and Administrative roles with GIO, Connelly Temple and National Mutual.
Peter holds a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Mathematics, from the University of New South Wales, and was formerly a Director of the Australian Retirement Incomes Stream Association (ARISA).
Andrew joined the Colonial First State Investments team in March 2002 following the merger of Colonial First State and Commonwealth Investment Management.
Andrew is the Investment Manager for Colonial First States’ Global equity portfolios. He is responsible for manager research and portfolio construction for Global Equities, including Emerging Markets and Asian Shares.
Andrew was previously involved in research and management of many asset class portfolios, including the development and management of Alternatives Portfolio, and manager selection and portfolio management for the Global Property and Infrastructure portfolios.
Andrew commenced work with William M Mercer Investment Consulting in February 1998 as an Actuarial Analyst, moving to Commonwealth fund services in November 1999 as a Senior Performance Analyst and then to Commonwealth Investment Management in October 2001 as a Quantitative Analyst.
Andrew holds a Bachelor of Economics degree, majoring in Actuarial Studies and Finance. In 2010, he completed the Certified Investment Management Analyst Program.
Guneet joined the Colonial First State Investments team in December 2012.
Guneet is the Investment Manager for Colonial First States’ Alternatives portfolio. She is responsible for manager research and portfolio construction for Alternatives and contributes to research across other asset classes.
Guneet was previously Senior Investment Manager at ipac, Australia. At ipac, she contributed to asset class research that included the development of investment strategy, manager selection and portfolio construction across a number of asset classes, including alternatives, fixed interest, A-REITS, Equities. She has had portfolio management responsibilities including asset allocation reviews of ipac’s diversified portfolios. She was also involved in setting up AXA multi-manager portfolios for the Mandatory Provident Fund market in Hong Kong.
Guneet has an Economic Honours degree from the University of Delhi, India and a post graduate diploma in Business Management, India. Guneet has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance from FINISIA.
George joined the Colonial First State Investments Team in June 2006.
George is the Investment Manager for Colonial First States’ Fixed Interest and Defensive Alternatives portfolio. He is responsible for manager research and portfolio construction for Fixed Interest and Defensive Alternatives and contributes to research across other asset classes.
Starting his career as an economist at the Department of the Prime Minister & Cabinet, George then worked in the area of tactical asset allocation when he moved to Westpac Investment Management. Consultancy positions followed with Anderson Consulting and IPAC, before more recently a Senior Investment Analyst role in funds manager rating at ASSIRT Research (now Standard & Poors).
George gained a first class honour degree in Economics & Econometrics from UNSW, and a Master of Economics from ANU.
He also holds an MBA from Australian Graduate School of Management as well as CFA.
Jujhar joined the Colonial First State Investments Team in June 2011.
Jujhar is the Investment Manager for Colonial First State’s Real Asset portfolios which include Australian Property Securities, Global Property Securities, Global Infrastructure Securities, Global Direct Infrastructure and Direct Property.
Jujhar was previously Executive Manager – Senior Investment Analyst at CommInsure. In his previous role he was responsible for determining strategic asset allocations, dynamic asset allocation, multi manager portfolio design and construction and manager research, analysis and selection for the Insurance businesses of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA). Prior to this Jujhar has worked at Mercer and Asteron Life.
Jujhar holds a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Actuarial & Finance from the University of New South Wales, and is a CAIA charter holder.
Jujhar speaks Punjabi and Hindi.
Ben joined the Colonial First State Investments team in May 2016.
Ben is the Investment Manager for Colonial First States Australian equity portfolios, he has responsibility for undertaking research and providing advice in relation to manager selection and portfolio management in various asset classes.
Ben was previously Senior Analyst in the Investment and Research Governance team at BT. From 2007 to 2015, Ben was a consultant and Manager researcher at Mercer Investments.
Ben has a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting & Finance from University of New South Wales and completed the Certified Investment Management Analyst program in 2010. He is fluent in Cantonese.
Fiona joined the Colonial First State Investments team in January 2004.
Fiona is an Investment Analyst responsible for supporting the team with quantitative analysis and research in several areas including in the Responsible Investments space. She has worked on a number of bespoke projects focused at achieving efficient portfolio implementation, including a recent review of how Global Equity Fund Managers execute spot FX.
From November 2000 until October 2002, she worked as a quantitative analyst for BT Funds Management and was responsible for providing quantitative analytics to both the domestic and international equity teams. Prior to this, she worked as a senior consultant for Barra International in London for over 3 years. In this role, she supported fund managers in their understanding and use of Barra’s risk management and performance attribution tools. Specifically, she gained extensive knowledge of appropriate quantitative methods for assessing managers against their peers.
Fiona has a first class honours bachelor degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, UK.
Leroy joined the Colonial First State Investments Team in October 2013.
Leroy is an Investment Analyst responsible for undertaking research and providing advice in relation to manager selection and portfolio management in various asset classes. He contributes to research towards the Lifestage portfolios and customer analytics. Additionally, Leroy supports the team in providing quantitative analysis.
Leroy joined the Graduate program of the Commonwealth Bank Group in February 2012 and spent time across Technical Services, Strategy and Fund Services.
Leroy holds a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies with first class honours degree in Economics from Macquarie University. He completed his Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) in November 2016. Leroy is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.
Ernest joined the Colonial First State Investments team in January 2016.
Ernest is an Investment Analyst at Colonial First State, Ernest is responsible for undertaking research and quantative analytics for the Multi-Manager and Lifestage portfolios.
Ernest joined the Graduate program of the Commonwealth Bank Group in February 2014 and spent time across Audit, Colonial First State Global Asset Management Finance, Wealth Strategy and Investment Development.
Ernest has a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies and a Bachelor of Finance majoring in Investment Management from The Australian National University. He is a CFA charterholder and speaks Cantonese.
Victoria joined the Colonial First State Investments team in May 2016.
As an Investment Analyst at Colonial First State, Victoria is responsible for undertaking research and providing quantative analysis for the Multi-Manager and Lifestage portfolios. She provides expertise in transition management trading strategies.
Previously, Victoria has worked in various areas of Institutional Banking & Markets at Standard Chartered Singapore and Macquarie Securities Australia.
Victoria has a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting from University of Sydney and a Master of Applied Finance from Macquarie University. She is a CFA and CAIA charter holder and fluent in Indonesian.
